about me

Hello, I'm Stuart, a fully qualified counsellor based in Shrewsbury, working with both adults and young people. I am an accredited member of the National Counselling Society (NCS); working in accordance with their Ethical Framework for Good Practice. As a member of the NCS, I am on a accredited register that has been accredited by the Professional Standards Authority

The register programme was set up by the Government to improve standards and safety for the benefit of the public.  Accreditation demonstrates my commitment to high professional standards; to enhancing safety and delivering a better service. Information relating to The National Counselling Society (NCS) Code of Ethics can be found here

I attend regular clinical supervision and I engage in Continued Professional Development to enhance my professional and personal practice. I am fully insured with Professional Civil Liability Insurance; registered
with the ICO (data protection & control) and I hold an enhanced DBS certificate.

My approach

I work with Adults, Young People and Couples. My goal is to create a safe environment for you to work through any past or ongoing struggles and to find freedom from the obstacles that are holding you back. Often people seek counselling when life has become too much for them to cope with; or they may simply want to make changes for personal growth. Most importantly, my aim is to support you through your individual journey; whatever that might be. I believe trust is the cornerstone for all relationships and that this is built through genuine authenticity and honesty. My counselling approach is conversational, engaging and collaborative.

Counselling can help you to gain insight into how present and past experiences can impact on how you live your life today. Understanding the connection between thoughts, feelings and behaviour can reduce the intensity of negative emotions; fostering growth and leading to positive life changes. At times I may gently challenge you, however, I won't offer advice, nor will I pass judgement. I believe in empowering you to make healthy decisions and to find the solutions that are right for you.

I am also a certified IEMT practitioner (Integral Eye Movement Therapy) and a registered member of The Association for IEMT Practitioners.

IEMT offers a combination of techniques which can enable people to release problematic emotions and feelings that may have become stuck over many years. The process also explores patterns of behaviour; helping to identify how we learn to feel the way we do and how we can create lasting change.

I offer short and long-term one to one, individual and couples counselling; face-to-face, online or on the telephone.

My qualifications include:

  • Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling

  • Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

  • Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People

  • Diploma in Relationship and Couples Counselling

  • Certified Online & Telephone Counsellor

  • Certified IEMT Practitioner (Integral Eye Movement Therapy)

On a personal note... I enjoy long walks with our family dog Cassie through her favourite woodland.  She encourages me to get out and about in the fresh air and keeps me fit and grounded. The simple things in life, such as being out in nature are beneficial for a healthy mind and body; allowing us time for reflection.

When I'm not working or trying to keep pace with Cassie, I can usually be found reading a good book or cooking my favourite indian cuisine!
