young people counselling

A flexible approach to working with Young People

I have a background in supporting children with their emotional wellbeing and providing counselling to young people in colleges and educational settings.

I have a special interest in working with young people 16 years old and over, who may be struggling with their emotional and mental wellbeing. A number of factors can contribute to poor mental health in young people, including:

  • Exam pressures

  • Bullying

  • Conflicts at home

  • Friendship and relationship difficulties

  • Poor performance at school/college/university

  • Struggling to fit in and find your place in the world

  • A feeling of under achieving

  • Uncertainty about your future

  • Cultural challenges

  • Suffering with abuse and neglect

  • Low mood and depression

  • Anxiety

  • Anger

  • Low self-esteem

  • Eating disorders

  • Body dysmorphia

  • Grief and loss

  • Self-harm

  • Suicidal thoughts

  • Being a young carer

  • Sexual identity

  • Gender identity

How can Counselling help?

As a young person you may find it extremely difficult to talk to friends and family about what you're experiencing; as a result, this can impact negatively on your mental health; leading to feelings of hopelessness and isolation.

Seeking support from counselling enables you as a young person to feel listened to and heard without judgement. Talking to an impartial, trustworthy trained professional, provides you with an opportunity to express your thoughts and feelings freely, in a safe, confidential and contained space. Engaging with counselling can help you to explore your difficulties, make sense of your emotions, enhance your self awareness and gain insight into the relationships you share with other people.

Attempting to navigate difficult challenges and life transitions can be hard. Accessing counselling can enable you to make more confident and informed choices; leading to positive outcomes that are right for you.
