couples Counselling

What is Couples Counselling?

The aim of couples counselling is to help two people involved in a purposeful relationship gain insight, resolve conflict and to improve satisfaction and understanding in their unique relationship with each other.

A couple can be any form of dyad from a married couple to a couple embarking on a new relationship, a parent and a child, siblings or even working colleagues. Purposeful relationships require people to communicate clearly, demonstrate respect and understanding, establish common ground and work together.

The goal of therapy is to improve your relationship and not to allocate blame. Therefore, the focus of couples counselling is centred around your relationship, rather than any one individual within the relationship.

A relationship consists of two individuals, often with different life experiences, cultural backgrounds, beliefs, goals, wants and needs. Sometimes these differences can collide, leading to barriers forming within the relationship; increased conflict and communication breakdown.
